Those Pumpkin Spice Destinations…

With the arrival of autumn, I wanted to share some stunning destinations that truly come alive in this season.

As the days grow shorter and temperatures drop, these places offer a pleasant escape from the hustle and bustle of peak season tourism. From enjoying extended summer vibes to relishing the beauty of falling golden leaves, these destinations promise a delightful autumn experience.

Belfast, Ireland

The nip of winter shyly shows the tip of its nose behind the maple autumn coloured scenery. Towering over Belfast, hike up Black Mountain for a view that stretches across the city towards the Strangford Lough inlet. A sea safari on the water or a stroll along the orange-hued shore make for a perfect excuse to pop in to the Crown Liquor Saloon and warm up with a spiced gin cocktail.

If you are travelling by car, a worthwhile nearby trip would be a visit to the enchanting archaeological site of Beaghmore Stone Circles. Or on your way to visit Old Bushmills Distillery, a whiskey-making legend in Northern Ireland, walk beneath the Dark Hedges, intertwined beech trees hugging the road.

Gatlinburg, Tennessee

The Smoky Mountains in the autumn offer a breathtaking display of foliage that attracts visitors from all over the world. The cooler temperatures make for ideal hiking and outdoor activities, and the fall festivals and events provide plenty of entertainment in Tennessee. Autumn is an excellent time to spot wildlife such as elk and black bears, adding to the overall experience. Tennessee is known for its delicious fall cuisine, including pumpkin-flavored treats, apple cider, and hearty comfort foods.Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, an adventure seeker, or simply looking for a scenic getaway, the Smoky Mountains in the fall are a must-visit destination.

Rome, Italy

Rome is a city that can be enjoyed throughout the year, but visiting in autumn can be particularly special. The weather is cooler and more comfortable than the hot summer months, allowing for more comfortable sightseeing. Additionally, the crowds of tourists tend to thin out, making it easier to see the city’s attractions without the long lines. Autumn also welcomes a number of cultural events and festivals to Rome, including the International Film Festival, the Rome Jazz Festival, and the Chestnut Festival. World traveling foodies will be delighted as they get to savor in the city’s culinary delights, including seasonal dishes like roasted chestnuts, truffles, and hearty pastas.

Utrecht, Netherlands

Come autumn, shades of yellow, red and orange embellish the ancient canals of Utrecht. Dating back to the 12th century, the canals with their wharves and wharf cellars are one of a kind in the world. The wharves were added to create an inner-city harbour so that the boats could dock and unload their goods directly into the wharf cellars that were equipped with pedestrian walkways.

Nowadays, the wharf cellars have been transformed into cozy cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. The best way to take in this Dutch wonder is by boat. Rent a boat and paddle your way through the colourful canals. If it gets a bit chilly, stop by for a warm beverage along the way.
